So you decided to go on a Working Holiday in Australia, and you are single? Great news! Australia is full of beautiful people and fun loving backpackers, just like you! If you’re single and you follow the following tips, you’ll have the time of your life!
TO MEET SOMEONE, BE SMILY AND LOOK APPROACHABLE:
Are you a shy person? In that case, you should try to make an effort and talk to people at work, in your youth hostel, in bars or cafes. Be smily, look approchable, and don’t hesitate to make the first move, even if you’re a girl! If you act like an ice queen or a dark, handsome stranger, you might scare potential dates away because they won’t dare talk to you.
TRY TO MAKE FRIENDS ONLINE:
Forget about match.com or Tinder. Websites such as meetup.com, craigslist.org, gumtree.com.au or Backpacker groups on Facebook are great places to meet people who share the same interests as you. You should register on these groups to participate in activities with working holiday makers from all over the world who decided to move to Australia just like you. The more new friends you have, the more opportunities you’ll get to meet potential dates!
STAY WITH ROOMMATES INSTEAD OF RENTING A PLACE BY YOURSELF:
Each of your roommates potentially has 20 guys/girls to introduce to you. But if you stay somewhere by yourself, it’ll be much harder to meet new people. Think about it…
WHAT IS SEDUCTIVE IN YOUR COUNTRY MIGHT NOT BE CHARMING IN OZ:
Maybe you come from a latin country where people are more straightforward when they like someone? Or maybe you’re from a country where relationships are less passionate? Be mindful of your behaviour while in Australia. You don’t want to push potential dates away by being too touchy-feely, or cold as ice…
MAKE AN EFFORT:
Australia is a very relaxed country, and you might spend most of your time in your shorts or swimsuit/bikini. That doesn’t mean you should stop showering and brushing your teeth! You can’t look and smell yucky if you want to go out on a date. Say no to greasy hair, hairy legs and shaggy beards!
BUT DON’T LOOK TOO HARD:
It’s always the same story: the more you try to meet someone, the less opportunities you get… It’s when you stop looking and start enjoying yourself and your working holiday in Australia that you’ll increase your chances of meeting the one!
LET YOUR PET BE THE CHARMER:
If you have a dog, you should go to doggy parks and let it meet fellow dogs. You can then talk to their owners if they’re cute! Pets are a great icebreaker.
TAKE A DANCE CLASS:
Dance classes, particularly latin forms of dance (tango, salsa etc.) are a great way to meet potential dates. You hate dancing? Well, you should make an effort and go for it!
ALWAYS BE CAREFUL:
When you go out at night, always be careful when somebody offers you a drink. Check that they didn’t spike it to take advantage of you. You should always be careful, and never drink too much when you go out clubbing. You don’t want to black out and wake up in somebody’s bed without remembering anything…
